one-week workshop to develop a National Data Protection and Privacy Policy and Strategy

Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure, in partnership with the Council of Europe, 6th May 2019, commence a one-week workshop to develop a National Data Protection and Privacy Policy and Strategy. This is in line with the Ministry’s National Cybersecurity Strategy and Action Plan. Being cognizant of the treat to personal data and privacy that a digital economy possesses, and while the ministry formulates its cybercrime bill at the same time speaks in high volume the government’s commitment in ensuring privacy as a fundamental human right. The workshop was officially opened by the Minister of Information and Communication Infrastructure Hon. Ebrima Sillah who expressed Gambia Government’s commitment to play its part in the fight against cybercrime and related menaces through becoming parties to regional international treaties/conventions aimed at fostering fruitful collaboration in ensuring a no safe heaven for cyber criminals while protecting fundamental human rights. The Policy and Strategy once adopted is meant to inform and pave the way for the formulation of a data protection and privacy bill for enactment.
